A extended voyage circling the Australian Coast has been cancelled in the wake of the tragic passing of an older lady who was stranded by the cruise liner on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been trekking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but broke off from the excursion for a rest. The liner departed without her and returned later that day after the personnel realised the lady was not present.

A major rescue mission discovered her body the next day.

Authorities are investigating the event, together with police and the official investigator.

Head of the cruise operator stated that travelers and staff on the ship were told that the remainder of the voyage had been terminated due to the "sad loss and prior engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that passengers would be issued a full refund, and said the operator was working "to arrange the homeward trips of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also issued an revised statement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Captain" preventing any new passengers from entering the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the ship in the Australian city upon its coming back.

Chronology of Incidents

The liner originally sailed from Cairns on 24 October, and was just two days into the expedition at the time of the senior passenger's passing. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the journey.

Travelers on the ship - who generally pay tens of thousands of currency to take part in the cruise - were ferried there for a daily excursion with the choice of trekking or underwater exploration.

The offspring of the deceased woman said that her relatives was "surprised and distressed that the ship left the location after an organised excursion without my mother".

Through her comments, she described her parent as an "vigorous octogenarian" who was a participant of a bushwalking organization.

"Based on limited information we have been told, it seems that there was a failure of attention and ordinary reasoning," she said.

She continued that she wished the examination would be able to determine what "the organization should have done that might have preserved Mother's being".

"Based on information from the police that it was a very hot afternoon, and mother became unwell on the uphill trek," she stated.

"She was asked her to go back, alone. Then the vessel departed, seemingly without performing a passenger count.

"At a certain moment in that sequence, or not long after, mum passed away, by herself."

Organization Reaction

Through an announcement, the CEO verified that the organization was "collaborating extensively with investigators to assist their inquiry".

He mentioned that the organization was "very regretful that this has transpired" and had provided its full support to the family.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The ship caters for up to one hundred twenty travelers with nearly fifty crew, according to official information. It was specially constructed to enter distant regions of Australia's coastline and is fitted with "auxiliary vessels" - compact vessels used to transport passengers on land visits.

Incidents such as this are rare, and liners have procedures to record which passengers are boarding or getting off, according to maritime specialists.
