Explosion Costs Three Law Enforcement Officers During Property Removal Action in Northern Italy
Three police officers lost their lives and no fewer than 15 people sustained injuries in an apparently premeditated detonation from gas at a country home in northern Italy.

The explosion took place as police and firefighters entered the residence close to Verona to execute an court-ordered eviction for three siblings in their late 50s and mid-60s.
Each of the three victims who died were members of the Carabinieri force.

The explosion could be audible approximately 5 kilometers away and images from the area displayed the property left as a pile of rubble.
“This moment calls for sorrow,” commented the Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, who mentioned that attempts had been made to displace the three family members in the past.
Property Situation
The leader of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, said the residence was facing an court order due to debts incurred by the siblings.
Negotiators had been sent to talk with the brothers and sister who had secured themselves into the house. When the police came soon after 03:00 (01:00 GMT), investigators think one of the siblings set off the detonation.
“As we went inside, we encountered a completely deranged action,” provincial police commander the police commander informed reporters.
A propane tank had been set off, and the explosion precisely impacted our members,” he explained.
Petrol bombs were also located at the site, the interior minister confirmed.
Injuries and Destruction
Injured individuals by the explosion consisted of an additional 11 personnel of the military police as well as a trio of personnel of national police and a firefighter.
Based on information from the prosecuting attorney, the building was in a poor condition and had lacked electrical service.
The official thought the blast had taken place on a story above the doorway and informed journalists it was a “deliberate and pre-planned murder”. Shortly before the blast, he revealed officers had “detected a whistling noise, presumably the gas cylinders being opened”.
Neighbor Statements
“We all knew the situation was dire,” local residents told local news, mentioning that the trio had in the past stated to “blow themselves up” rather than vacate the property.
“The blast resulted in a ‘horrific, deeply distressing and tragic cost’.”
