A jet ferrying Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth was compelled to make an unscheduled landing in the UK on Wednesday due to a fissure was found in the aircraft's cockpit window, according to an official statement which confirmed that Hegseth was safe.

"The plane touched down in accordance with standard protocol and all individuals on the flight, such as Pete Hegseth, is unharmed," an official representative said in a social media post.

He was traveling back from a short visit to the Belgian capital at the time.

This event is not the first time that a American defense plane carrying a top government figure has suffered equipment failures.

Earlier this year, a United States Air Force aircraft transporting Marco Rubio to the German city of Munich was required to head back to the US capital after encountering a technical issue.
