Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the team drafted in the second round.

No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.

Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
