Suspected Stalker Questioned: 'But Imagine I Am Madeleine?'
A female indicted with harassing Kate McCann allegedly deposited her a recorded message which asked: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who a jury heard has consistently declared she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are facing charges accused with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, the court was told call records and information recovered from phones recorded Ms Wandelt persistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a DNA test during the past two years.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - when she was three years old during a family holiday in Portugal - is considered the most publicized missing child cases and is still open.
'I Don't Want Money'
One voicemail, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I realize I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine used to be, but I believe what I believe."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "Suppose there is a tiny probability that I'm her? Then what? Is that not crucial for you?"
"I don't want money, I have a existence here in Poland, I only wish to discover," she added.
The tribunal was told that through electronic messages, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a biological test, transmitted early photographs to her phone in a effort to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and stated to have "memories" from a youth with the McCanns.
The investigator, an intelligence analyst with Leicestershire Police who gathered the information, advised the court there "seemed to lack any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also reached out to family friends of the McCanns, according to the call data.
On 9 October 2024, the father responded to a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "the wrong phone."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's recording stating "I won't give up and I plan to establish my claim."
The court learned the co-defendant developed a association through digital means with Ms Wandelt preceding assisting her on a appearance to the McCanns' property in that area in December 2024.
Call logs showed Mrs Spragg had communicated using communication app to Mrs McCann to say the press had depicted Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she ought to be treated respectfully in the period before the trip to the village, that area, in last December.
The court learned message exchanges between the two accused, in November 2024, planning attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's genetic material from her trash or from utensils at a restaurant.
"We need to assert ourselves," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the appearance to their house, the defendant sent a communication which stated: "We find ourselves sat near the McCanns' house with our lights out resembling private investigators. I wanted to do this with Peter Andrew I never thought I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The proceedings continues.
